“Sing Choirs of Angels”: Saskatoon Children’s Choir in Concert
The award winning Saskatoon Children’s Choir (SCC), under the direction of Artistic Director Phoebe Voigts, will be joined by a number of professional brass players from Saskatoon for its annual Christmas concert “Sing Choirs of Angels”.
The concert takes place on December 2 and 3, 2011 at 7:30 PM at Third Avenue United Church in Saskatoon, and will feature the angelic voices of 120 choristers, accompanied by pianist Michelle Aalders. The program will feature classical and contemporary choral music of Lang, Stroope, Tiefenbach, Bach, Franck, Canadian folk music, as well as the choir’s stunning renditions of traditional seasonal favourites.
“We are delighted to be joined by so many Saskatoon’s professional musicians once again for this year’s concert,” said Voigts. “Their presence not only enriches the selections on the program, but also creates a wonderful learning experience for our choristers.”
The SCC is a strong presence on the world choral stage, including performances in France, Spain, Austria, the Czech Republic, China, the United States and Canada. This past July, the choir performed six concerts on their tour of South Africa.
Tickets are $20 and are available at McNally Robinson Booksellers, and at the door. Reserved seating.

Piano Lessons in Parkridge
I am an experienced piano teacher who instructs all ages, beginners to advanced, in my home near the Shaw Centre. “It is my goal to teach students in the way they learn best in the style of music they prefer, inspiring them to become competent players, so that the enjoyment of music will last a lifetime.” Playing styles include: basic fundamentals for beginner students, classical piano and theory, popular piano, chording, contemporary worship and hymn playing. RCM examinations, Music Festival and recital participation is encouraged.
I have taught numerous homeschoolers who have completed RCM exams for high school credits and special projects. In my experience, I have observed that homeschoolers have an advantage, in that piano practicing becomes part of their daily routine during their prime learning time. For this reason, it is also beneficial for them to take daytime lessons. Daytime and evening lesson times are available. There is a family tuition rate: the 3rd family member receives a 10% discount. You may contact me at 384-3808 or ol.cr@sasktel.net.

End of the Year Homeschool Fair – Thursday May 26th
When: Thursday May 26th, 5-10pm
Where: Holy Covenant Church Basement (1426 Alexandra Ave – Saskatoon)
What do I mean by “homeschool fair”?
A chance to sell used books, visit, and share ideas for the coming school year. Not just coffee and treats time (although there will be those), there will be a short (about an hour-from 7-8pm) time when anyone who wants can share their idea for a class, field trip, project, club etc. If you’ve found some cool curriculum but think it would really be better followed in a group setting, be prepared to talk about it. Would you be willing to plan field trips if you had someone to work with? Favorite educational finds of the past year – please share!
NEW PLAN for the Used Book Sale** My husband Andrew has volunteered to be the cashier for the evening, recording sales and collecting money. This means that you do not need to run your own table, but you still could if you’d prefer. Please mark each and every item for sale with your name or initials and the price. I’ll be at the church with tables set up by 5pm. If you are planning to sell books, please e-mail me (Kayla – klarc.hunt@gmail.com) with your name, the “code” you’ll use to mark your books and estimated amount of books (ie, 1 box, 10 boxes…).
Come when you can, we’ll have “official” forum time from 7-8, but the rest of the evening will just be shopping and chatting!
If you would like to share a class opportunity, co-op idea, favorite website….but just won’t be able to attend, please send me a paragraph or two along with your contact information and I’ll compile them into a handout.
Any questions, contact Kayla at klarc.hunt@gmail.com
